Currently have 64-bit version of 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime' installed, have a new application that is failing to install. MSI log indicates it is missing the 32-bit version of the 2010 tools. VS 2010 Tools for Office Runtime installs correctly. However the setup.exe for my Add-in doesn't recognize the installation and says the installation fails with the following pop-up: If I continue with the installation, the add-in installs and works.

I am currently installing a Powerpoint Add-in which I have built in C#. in the prerequisites Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (x86 and x64) is listed. I have created a setup using the ClickOnce deployment. But I would idealy want my setup to not need admin rights.

The Office extensions for .NET Framework 3.5 and Office extensions for .NET Framework 4. If you are targeting the .NET Framework 4, the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Runtime must be selected in the Prerequisites Dialog Box and installed on end-user computers. This is because the Office extensions for .NET Framework 4 are not included in the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office runtime that is included in Microsoft Office 2010 Beta or RTM.

From my own personal experience. over the past year I have found that anything lower than Microsoft Office 2010 (2007 and below) needed to install Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office runtime.

We have code that checks for the presence of the VSTO 4.0 runtime and downloads it, if missing. This has worked fine until today. It seems the VSTO runtime file has gone missing from MS. Does anyone know anything about this? Can we tell our clients it's an MS problem and will be cleared up shortly? Google doesn't find any comments about the file being removed.

Note: the latest update to the VSTO Runtime (from November 2012) has merged the VSTO Runtime packages from two files (x86 and x64) to just one file. The download location has also moved. Follow this link for the latest version of the download page: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140384 (referenced by MSDN documentation, such as http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178739(v=vs.110).aspx).
