Ps4 Controller Driver Error With Pc
For this to work, the PS4 controller must present himself as 'audio device' so that Windows knows where to route audio. Check for additional drivers to install, or see whether you have additional audio devices.
Windows 10 and Xbox are understandably great bedfellows, and it's easy to use your Xbox controller across the two platforms. However, many people have a PlayStation 4 (PS4) lying around, complete with a DualShock 4 (DS4) controller. Whereas connecting the DS4 to a PC was once a bit of a nightmare, it's now pretty easy thanks to better software integration. Here's how to get the two working together and how to use the DS4 in a couple of different scenarios.
How to pair your PlayStation 4 controller with a wired connection
Connecting the DS4 to your PC with a USB-A to Micro-USB cable is by far the easiest way to start gaming with the PS4's pointer. Just plug it into your PC and let the drivers install themselves.
You cannot use the PS4 controller over Bluetooth without purchasing the 'PS4 DualShock USB Wireless Adaptor', or using the USB cable. If you want to save yourself some money, using a USB cable is the easiest option. How to Use the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 Controller for PC Gaming. Once you’ve connected a PS4 controller to a PC. Xbox 360 controllers—and Xbox One controllers, now that Microsoft has finally released the necessary drivers—are usually best for PC gaming.
Hitting the PS button in the middle of the controller at this point won't do anything unless you have Steam installed and running. If so, you'll notice that Big Picture mode launches when you hit the button. At this point, you can make some tweaks inside Steam.
How to pair your PlayStation 4 controller with a wireless connection
Sony has an official USB-A wireless adapter meant to bridge the gap between the DS4 controller and any PCs without Bluetooth capabilities. Unfortunately, it seems like the product has been discontinued, making it much harder to track down.
This Japanese version ― which by all means should work no matter where you are located ― costs about $60, making it the most expensive route. If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities and you don't want a long cable running between your PC and controller, though, it becomes quite attractive.
To use this adapter, just plug it into your PC and let the drivers install automatically. From there, the DS4 should operate just as though you have a wired or Bluetooth connection.
How to pair your PlayStation 4 controller with Bluetooth
If you can't get your hands on one of the official DS4 wireless adapters, you can always give Bluetooth a shot. Fair warning, the connection might not always work depending on your PC's hardware, but it's at least worth a shot if you don't want to snake a long cable to the controller.
Make sure the controller isn't paired with a PS4 ― a good way to start is to pair the controller with your PC using the wired method ― before proceeding.
- Hold down the Share and PS buttons simultaneously to put the controller into Bluetooth pairing mode. The controller light will begin flashing.
- Click the Start button on your PC.
Click Settings.
- Click Devices.
Click Bluetooth & other devices.
- Click Add Bluetooth or other device.
Click Bluetooth.
- Click Wireless Controller.
Click Done.
Drivers should now be automatically installed. Like with the wired connection, hitting the PS button with Steam running will launch Big Picture mode.
Using your PlayStation 4 controller with your PC
One of the most common reasons you might want to use a DS4 controller with your PC is PlayStation Now, the streaming game service that delivers PS3 and PS4 games to your computer. Once the DS4 is connected, all you have to do is install the PlayStation Now app and follow the setup instructions.
If you'd rather use your DS4 in a number of other scenarios, including those usually reserved for an Xbox controller, I suggest trying out DS4Windows. Before downloading and installing DS4Windows, I paired my DS4 controller with my PC using Bluetooth, although any pairing method will work.

You can now use your DS4 in any place where you'd normally use an Xbox controller, though the on-screen buttons will remain relevant to the Xbox hardware.
Using your PlayStation 4 controller with Steam
Steam added built-in support for the DS4 awhile ago, and some PC games even come with further support and settings that can be tweaked from the in-game menu.
In the case of Steam, you can select the DS4 as the default controller through the Settings menu.

Click Steam.

Click Controller.

Click PS4 Configuration Support.

The DualShock 4 is a great controller, but it's designed specifically for the PlaySation 4. That means, at least on paper, that it's not meant to be used with a PC. Fear not, since PCs are such powerful and flexible systems that you can get nearly any peripheral to work on them with a little effort.
To play your Steam games with a DualShock 4, all you need is a third-party controller wrapper program called DS4Windows and, if you want to use it wirelessly, a Bluetooth dongle or onboard Bluetooth connectivity. Here's how to do it.
DS4Windows
Most current games in Windows use Microsoft's XInput, an interface that processes Xbox 360 and Xbox One controller inputs. The DualShock 4 doesn't send XInput commands, so a wrapper is needed to translate its inputs into something your PC can deal with easier. DS4Windows is a freeware program that tricks your PC into thinking an Xbox 360 controller instead of a DualShock 4 is connected. Follow these steps to get it to work.
- Download it from the DS4Windows web site and extract the file to a folder on your computer.
- Open DS4Windows.
- Follow the instructions in the pop-up window to make sure a generic gamepad driver is installed for the DualShock 4.
- Close DS4Windows and plug your DualShock 4 into your PC.
- Wait for 'Wireless Controller' to be installed and to appear on your devices list.
- Open DS4Windows again. The DualShock 4 should appear under Controllers with a USB symbol under Status, and Windows will tell you that it's setting up an Xbox 360 controller. That's your DualShock 4, in disguise.
- Start playing!
That's all you need to do to use your DualShock 4 with your PC as a wired controller. If you want to use it wirelessly, there's an extra step or two. It's easiest to set it up after you configure DS4Windows and connect your DualShock 4 to your PC over USB first.
Bluetooth Pairing
To pair your DualShock 4 to your PC over Bluetooth, you need to turn the controller off and force it into pairing mode. If it's wirelessly connected to your PS4, hold down the PlayStation button for a few seconds and select Sound/Devices, then Turn Off DualShock 4. If the light bar isn't on, you're good.
With the DualShock 4 turned off, hold down the PlayStation and Share buttons for three seconds until the light bar starts double flashing. This means it's in Bluetooth pairing mode. Right-click on the Bluetooth icon in your system tray and click 'Add a Bluetooth Device.' Select 'Wireless Controller' and wait for it to pair.
With Wireless Controller connected under your Bluetooth devices, open up DS4Windows again and make sure the gamepad shows up with a Bluetooth symbol under Status. It's now connected wirelessly and will work just like an Xbox 360 controller.
What Else Can You Do?
By default, the DualShock 4 will act like an Xbox 360 controller with the touchpad functioning as a mouse, but DS4Windows offers more options. Click on the Profiles tab and double-click on the Default profile, or create your own new profile. An outline of the DualShock 4 will appear surrounded by various settings. Here you can remap the physical controls, program the touchpad and motion controls to act in different ways, adjust rumble settings, and tweak the analog sticks' dead zones and movement curves. You can even change the color of the light bar.
DS4Windows offers many more options for getting your DualShock 4 to feel good on your PC. You shouldn't have to go into these settings because most games will behave properly after you set the software up the first time, but they're good to have.

Connect Ps4 Controller To Pc
While DS4Windows lets you use the DualShock 4's physical controls, touchpad, and motion controls, it won't enable the controller's headphone jack. That means you can't use a gaming headset connected through the gamepad like you can when it's connected to a PS4. It's one of the few drawbacks of using your DualShock 4 with a PC.
